About us
The Catechism Department of the Archeparchy of Kottayam is dedicated to nurturing the Catholic faith among children, youth, and families in the Knanaya community. Rooted in the Word of God and the tradition of the Syro-Malabar Church, the department coordinates parish catechism classes, catechist training, retreats, and faith-formation programs.
Our mission is to help every member of the Church know, live, and witness Christ in daily life, forming a faith-filled generation committed to the Gospel and the life of the Church.
Coordinating catechism classes across parishes of the Archeparchy.
Forming and equipping catechists to teach with clarity and joy.
Faith-formation retreats for children, youth and families.
Guiding families preparing for First Communion and Confirmation.
Leadership
Metropolitan Archbishop of Kottayam
He was born on February 27, 1953 at Uzhavoor in Kottayam District. He was ordained priest on 27th December, 1978. He holds a B.Sc., B.Ed., M.A. in Sociology, and a doctorate in Canon Law. In 1994 he joined the Vallombrosan Benedictine Monastery and made his Final Profession on December 5, 1998.
Auxiliary Bishop of Kottayam

Auxiliary Bishop of Kottayam
Fr. George Kurisummoottil was born on August 8, 1961 at Kattode, Thiruvalla, in the Archeparchy of Kottayam. He studied at St. Stanislaus Minor Seminary, Kottayam (1977–80) and St. Joseph's Interdiocesan Seminary, Mangalore (1980–87). He was ordained priest on 27.12.1987 for the Archdiocese of Kottayam, and served as Vice-Rector of the Minor Seminary, Kottayam, from 1988.
